July 27, 2003 - Toluca Lake, California, U.S. - BOB HOPE (May 29, 1903 - July 27, 2003), was an English-American comedian, vaudevillian, actor, singer, dancer, author, and athlete. He was noted for his numerous United Service Organizations (USO) shows entertaining American military personnel, he made 57 tours for the USO between 1941 and 1991. Throughout his long career, he was honored for this work. In 1997, the U.S. Congress declared him the 'first and only honorary veteran of the U.S. armed forces.' With a career spanning over 60 years, Hope appeared in over 70 films and shorts, including a series of 'Road' movies. In addition to hosting the Academy Awards fourteen times (the most of any host), he appeared in many stage productions and television roles, and was the author of fourteen books. He participated in the sports of golf and boxing, and owned a small stake in his hometown baseball team, the Cleveland Indians. He was married to performer Dolores Hope (nee DeFina) for 69 years. Hope died of pneumonia at his home in Toluca Lake, California at age 100. Getting the box open was quite a problem and she didn't manage it until she had taken it into the water with her. What she did discovered having opened it, was a violin and Freda being a musically minded bear, proceeded to play. And what did Freda plan? 1968 - Canine record star.: Junie, the brindle Great Done owned by Barbara Woodhouse is already well known as a film star, having appeared in several films, including 'beggar my neighbor''. Now, however, Junie makes her doubt as a recording artiste. Barbara Woodhouse, the well known dog trainer has enlisted Junie's help providing a set of rules and training concepts for dog owners, by making a 40 minute long playing record, entitled 'Dog training my way'. Junie's port is a resounding bark at the end of the record; and since the release of the record she has had lots of fan mail - much from Eton College and even some from America. Mrs. Woodhouse sets a high standard of obedience and believes the secret of dog training is to have the right tone of voice. John Aspinall has an extraordinary relationship with his animals, Communistic with mentally and Physically, and gaining the respect and trust from first and most timid of the 40 or so species which can be four Howlett Zoo Park, (55acres), He talks to them and plays gaining a remarkable insight to animal mentality. This for the first time Howletts Zoo will be open to the public for the entire summer every day until 31st October. (It has had brief opening for just a few weeks previously). Kijo's father Kisoro was invited to stay at Howletts zoo to mate with Ju Ju, he comes from Lincoln Park Zoo, Chicago. 1968 - ''This Little Piggy...'' This little piggy never did quite go to market and no wonder he looks happy! For ''Bertrand'' as he has becomed known, failed to scale the right weight for the slaughter house and is now keeping butchers waiting for the 'chop', as he receives a reprieve until such time as he makes the regulation weight. 1968 - Shepherd dog becomes foster mother to a tiger baby A newly born tiger cub Ganga at the Berlin Zoo, was abandoned by its mother immediately after birth. The zoo authorities sent out an S.O.S. to animal lovers for a foster mother. Astra a sheep dog soon arrived, complete with her own baby Benno Now Astra has taken on the role of foster mother with complete success and Benno is a first class playmate for the tiger cub.
