CANDIDATE IS WELL ' COACHED '
Petrol, or lack of it, is playing an important part in the general election campaign, but Major Hugh Fraser, Conservative candidate for the new Stafford and Stone constituency, has no worries in that direction.
From the box of a coach and four outside the old royal oak hotel, he harangues his constituents at Eccles hall Staffordshire.
Major Fraser asked electors to get ' more fun , gaiety and colour' into the campaign and pledged whatever horse-drawn transport was available will be organised to get country voters to the poll ' whatever their political opinions'.

Army Council meets by hurricane lamp to issue orders in battle for coal.
Wearing overcoats for warmth and using hurricane lamps and candles for illumination , the Executive Committee of the Army Council ( the body which controls the British Army) met at the War Office , London and issued operation orders to troops who are to assist the movement of coal. Getting fuel to the empty bunkers of power stations and gas works and to Britian's paralysed industries is now regarded as a military operation of the first importance. Snow and ice are the enemies. Until coal deliveries are resumed drastic restrictions on the use of electricity and fuel cannot be relaxed by the Government.
