Work has started to install the world’s longest and tallest slide around the Orbit tower in the Olympic park. A team of specialist abseilers lifted the first pieces into place on Friday. Initial attempts on Thursday were abandoned because of bad weather.
The Slide, billed as "London’s most spectacular and thrilling new attraction", is due to open in early summer and tickets will go on sale in the next few weeks. The Slide will wrap around the Orbit 12 times and be 178 metres long, allowing users to reach speeds of about 15mph on the 40-second descent.

NEWS - London: The New Tate Modern von 'Herzog & de Meuron' ist für die Eröffnung bereit
Tens of thousands of visitors are set to visit the newly extended Tate Modern in London. The pyramid-like extension, billed as Britain’s most important new cultural building in two decades, opens its doors with hundreds of new works of art on show. Taking centre stage in the Turbine Hall is a 22ft sculpture, bolted together from dead trees, by Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei, who famously filled the entrance with porcelain sunflower seeds in 2010. The 10-storey Switch House will include three floors of galleries connected by a bridge to the existing building, as well as a cafe, restaurant, members’ room and terrace. The gallery is expected to attract six million visitors a year. The new gallery, designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron, which designed the conversion of Tate Modern from the derelict Bankside power station, will increase the gallery’s size by 60 per cent and allow hundreds more pieces to be displayed. “If one is accepted to walk into this door; He will walk out with all the doors of the world probably thrown open to him”.
So remarked student Satish Kumar,18, casually pointing towards the tattered tin door of the Ramanujan School of mathematics located amidst the narrow muddy water logged bylanes of Patna, Bihar.
He continues,“Me and many others like me are examples of this, in spite of being poor we now feel of being second to none.”
The reason for Satish kumar’s new found confidence is that he is one amongst the 30 of the poorest but talented students in Bihar who had been selected to be a part of a batch known as the SUPER 30, and who after a complete year’s hard work have now passed the entrance test of the IIT JEE 2009 (Indian Institute of Technology’s Joint Entrance Examination ) with flying colors.
This guarantees him a berth in one of the 15 IIT’s spread across India, the topmost & elitist Technology Colleges in India; the Indian equivalent of the Ivy league colleges. IITs are the technological haven and boast of an alumni like Sabeer Bhatia, the inventor of Hotmail & N.R. Narayana Murthy founder of Infosys and many others who are right now running the most prestigious blue chip companies around the world. It can lay claim of having created some of the world’s brightest tech wizards and engineering geniuses in recent times.
With such credentials it is given that the IITs are notoriously selective in their admission procedure. About 384,977 students took their Joint Entrance Test (IIT-JEE) this year, hankering after 8,295 seats, indicating an admission rate of around two per cent, the most competitive in the world. (That at Princeton, Yale, and Harvard hovers around nine per cent).?
“Our only hope of entry into IIT and out of poverty was the SUPER 30. It was our only talisman.” Says another successful student Nagendra Ram.
Super-30 is what dreams are made of. A sweeper?

The concept for the 2011 Pavilion is the hortus conclusus, a contemplative room, a garden within a garden. One enters the building from the lawn and begins the transition into the central garden, a place abstracted from the world of noise and traffic and the smells of London Ð an interior space within which to sit, to walk, to observe the flowers.

On Aug. 1, 1927, Communist-led armed forces held an uprising in Nanchang City, which marks the birth of the armed forces of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and has been recorded as a great event in China's revolutionary history.
Nanchang, one of the "red cradles" of CPC, is also an industrial base in east China and has made contribution to China's development and modernization, especially the aviation industry.
Hongdu Aviation Industry Group, a division of the China Aviation Industry Corp (AVIC), is a main base for research and manufacturing of trainers, UAV, general airplanes and missiles, and also a main base for export of aviation products. Founded in 1951, Hongdu made the first plane of People's Republic of China in July 1954. Up to now, Hongdu has developed and manufactured over 5,000 aircrafts, more than 500 of which were exported.
K8 trainer and L15 trainer, developed and manufactured by Hongdu, are among the outstanding trainer planes in China's aviation. K8 trainer is designed in compliance with the international criteria and developed in a form of international cooperation, is primarily used for pilot's basic training and advanced training. L15, a new generation two-engine supersonic advanced trainer with typical characteristics of third generation fighters, can be used for advanced training and strategic pilot drills.
Hondu also undertakes the construction of the fore part of the airframe of C919 jumbo jet, China's self-developed jumbo jet. C919, is scheduled to take off in 2014 after being rolled off the assemble line between the end of 2013 and the first half of 2014.
