A young girl listens to a remembrance ceremony held in the Derry Cemetery in memory of the dead on the Republican front during the Troubles. Many people in Derry have some members of the family affected by the clashes between loyalists and unionists which caused thousands of deaths in the regions, on both fronts, between the 60s and the 90s.

Sinn Féin head office, The Falls. Belfast. Sinn Féin is an Irish republican political party active in Northern Ireland. Sinn Féin is the largest group in the Republican wing of Irish nationalism and is closely associated with the Provisional IRA, however, the SF leadership has denied these claims. A republican document of the early 1980s states, "Both Sinn Féin and the IRA play different but converging roles in the war of national liberation. The Irish Republican Army wages an armed campaign... Sinn Féin maintains the propaganda war and is the public and political voice of the movement"

These stunning images show humpback whales feeding last week.
Wildlife photographer Roy Mangersnes travelled to Tromsø in Norway to capture the spectacle.
His pictures show massive humpback whales plunging out of the water, fish flying, while they feed on the huge congregation of herring in these fjords during the winter months.
Also pictured are humpback whales resting on the surface of the freezing cold water outside, tired from hunting herring in the deep.
He explains: "As the sun is disappearing from Northern Norway and snow is covering the ground, hundreds of whales are entering the narrow fjords. Under the surface, millions of herring are luring in commercial fishers, whales, eagles and gulls alike."

Document recovered from a Soviet military base abandoned after the collapse of the USSR.
Soviet propaganda poster.
Top text reads: 'In the army there cannot be the pretexts
"I do not want", "I do not wish", "I cannot". When there is
an order it is necessary both to want, and to wish, and to be able to execute it at any cost. Such is the great law of social duty, the sense of selfless service to the Homeland.'
R. Ya. Malikovski, Marshal of the Soviet Union, twice Hero
of the Soviet Union.
Diagonal text reads: THE COMPONENTS OF FIGHTING POTENTIAL: ORGANISATION AND DISCIPLINE.
EXECUTE ORDERS ACCURATELY, UNCONDITIONALLY, ON TIME.
Bottom text reads: '...I will carry out the mission until
my last breathe, until the very last drop of my blood ...
What forces help me to commit a courageous act ? Military discipline and party duty. It is correct to say: from discipline to heroism there is one step.' Captain G. Maslovski, from a letter to his son.

These haunting photographs show the remnants of the once all-powerful Soviet empire.
They are the work of Eric Lusito, who spent six years travelling throughout the former Soviet world from East Germany to Mongolia, from Poland to Kazakhstan to seek out remains of the military installations that embodied the ambition and the might of the USSR.
Describing himself as working like an archaeologist, the French photographer says his project "Traces of the Soviet Empire" is a photographic record of the land and architecture - haunted by the symbols and history of a once powerful Empire.
The on-going project takes the form o

William*, a 5 year old boy, being treated for cholera a primary health care unit in Torit County by Save the Children and County Health Department staff.
Afisha moves slowly and deliberately between her two children, William and Sarah, who are being treated at a primary health care centre (PHCC) in Torit County, Eastern Equatoria State, South Sudan. Afisha seems worn out, but is obviously still concerned about her children and is constantly moving between the pair and vigilantly monitoring them both.
The PHCC has been open in Hiyala, a rural village in Torit County, for several years. Afisha lives about an hourâs walk from the centre, and when her two children fell ill she immediately set off on foot with her 3 year old and 5 year old in tow. Her elderly mother also walked with them down the dusty, uneven road. It was the middle of the night.
Afishaâs experience is not uncommon in South Sudan at the moment, as more and more cases of cholera are being reported throughout the country at an increasingly alarming rate. This was also not Afishaâs only experience of this deadly disease. Afisha had four children, however tragedy struck when her four year old, and her two year old contracted an illness symptomatic of cholera. Unfortunately Afisha was not able to get treatment for her two children who sadly passed away due to the disease.
The times are changing for Afisha and her family, and many other families in the area. Illness is a constant. Given the lack of access to sanitary conditions or clean water, it is not surprising that areas like this are rife with diseases such as cholera. However, with the PHCC within walking distance for ...

Photos Capture Colombian Fans Excitement As They Continue To Impress In World Cup
A Czech photojournalist has captured the passion and excitement of Colombian fans as the country's football team continues to succeed through the last stages of the World Cup.
Jan Sochor, who, is currently based in Quito, Ecuador has been exploring Colombia since 2004.
The 39-year-old visited the country last week (24-28 June) and witnessed patriotic fans reactions to Colombia beating Japan and Uruguay in the World Cup.
"I visit Colombia every 2-3 months, usually for couple of weeks, working on a particular story/project. To be honest, Colombia is a country of my heart. In spite of its violent fame, I consider Colombian people the most cordial and loving people in all Latin America."
However the experienced photojournalist had not planned on creating a photo series throughout his trip.
He explains: "Seriously, I did not plan it. I just had an idea. When I arrived in Cali, I simply got caught up in the football atmosphere.
"The way Caleños (people from Cali) live with the World Cup was so impressive, so passionate and so emotional, that I impulsively decided to try and take images on my iPhone. I wanted to capture the Colombian football fever."
Jan took the photos while watching Colombia win both matches against Japan and Uruguay last week. (Colombia defeated both teams (2,0 against Uruguay & 4,1 against Japan).
As the photojournalist had not planned the project, he had left his professional cameras and lenses at hom...

Engaged trasgender couple both plan to have sex changed before getitng married, Wales, Britain - 09 Aug 2013

Boy (Formerly A Girl) Meets Girl (Formerly A Boy)
A trasgender couple have vowed not to get married until they have both had a sex change.
Jamie Eagle, 20, who was born a boy, and Louis Davies, 25, who was born a girl, are both currently transitioning.
According to the couple they both knew from an early age that they were the wrong gender.
Jamie has been living as a girl for the past four years, since she was 16, and for the past six months has been on hormones to prepare her for surgery.
Meanwhile, Louis, who was born Samantha, began his process of transitoning when he was 22.
They first met when Louis invited Jamie to give a talk to his university group as he prepared to come out as transgender.
Following that meeting he asked her out on a date and they now live together in Bridgend, Wales.
They have never been intimate with one another - because they aren't comfortable with their bodies - and are waiting until after their gender reassignment surgeries.
The pair recently went public about their situation and, sadly, Jamie says she has since received daily abuse.
Despite this, neither Jamie nor Louis regret their decision to tell their story as they hope that it will help to change negative stereotypes.
They have also, they are quick to add, received many positive comments.

Despite this, neither Jamie nor Louis regret their decision to tell their story as they hope that it will help to change negative stereotypes.
They have also, they are quick to add, received many positive comments.

The Merciful Tigers: Predators Let Young Vulture Get Away
These stunning images show a young vulture looking like it is about to become a tiger's lunch - only to be allowed to escape.
Wildlife photographer Santosh Saligram captured the amazing scene as three tigers looked set for an easy meal.
He took these shots of a tigress and her two female juveniles in the wild at Bandhavgarh national park in central India.
Santosh explains: "The resident tigress and two of her female cubs were cooling off in the water of the famous Rajbehra Dam area.
"Suddenly, one of the tigresses noticed something on a rock at the corner and both the sisters went off to investigate.
"They reappeared shortly, following a juvenile long-billed vulture which seemed to have lost its way from its nest and incapacitated in some way.
"Threatened by the tigers, it tried to fly but only managed to flop down into the water. One of the tigresses then approached the vulture from the other side in a curious way.
"The vulture opened its beak wide in defence, hoping to put the tiger off, which it successfully did.
"Slowly, it started creeping towards the bank and after some time, climbed up the bank and disappeared into the bush. It was amazing, I have never seen anything like this happen in the wild."
