NEWS - London: The New Tate Modern von 'Herzog & de Meuron' ist für die Eröffnung bereit
Tens of thousands of visitors are set to visit the newly extended Tate Modern in London. The pyramid-like extension, billed as Britain’s most important new cultural building in two decades, opens its doors with hundreds of new works of art on show. Taking centre stage in the Turbine Hall is a 22ft sculpture, bolted together from dead trees, by Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei, who famously filled the entrance with porcelain sunflower seeds in 2010. The 10-storey Switch House will include three floors of galleries connected by a bridge to the existing building, as well as a cafe, restaurant, members’ room and terrace. The gallery is expected to attract six million visitors a year. The new gallery, designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron, which designed the conversion of Tate Modern from the derelict Bankside power station, will increase the gallery’s size by 60 per cent and allow hundreds more pieces to be displayed. Not so for Frances Middleton and her husband, Ian. As they approached their sixties they made a conscious decision that this was their chance to be bold with design. And, sitting in the kitchen looking out over the show-stopping outside decking area with sunlight streaming through the huge four by two-metre glass roof panel, this 60-year-old psychotherapist hopes the look, feel and location of their new home will reassure others that downsizing can be a liberating experience. "Moving to a smaller property can be difficult for a lot of people. But I hope we have shown with this home that it can be an exciting change. It does not mean having to move away from town centres and into retirement villages. (...)

In case you missed it, Kristen Stewart has been chosen by Karl Lagerfeld to star in his latest Chanel short, Once and Forever.
The 11-minute film, which will premiere at the label's upcoming Métiers d’Art show in December, will see Stewart take on the role of none other than Coco Chanel herself. Or rather, an actress prepping for the role of Coco Chanel herself.
According to BTS reports on WWD.com, the film will be Stewart as we've never seen her before; playing a fiery, temperamental young actress who “locks horns with practically everyone on set”. We may even get a snippet of her singing, as one part of the film will revisit Chanel's past life as an aspiring stage performer.
“(Kristen is) so good,” Lagerfeld told WWD. “I think she’s one of the greatest actors of her generation. She gives the right emotion and the right intensity immediately so it’s very easy to work her...”
Once and Forever was filmed at Luc Besson's Paris studios over two days, and is Lagerfeld's 20th mini movie for the French fashion house. “All my movies about Chanel are better than the biopics,” he said simply. “They’re all horrible.”

Liverpool hair salon Voodou team up with legendary designer Thelma Madine to make a dress completely made out of hair.
My Big Fat Gypsy Hair-Dresser: Gown Made From Human Hair
Liverpool dressmaker Thelma Madine has created a dress made entirely from human hair.
The size 6 dress, which took eight people over 300 hours to complete, uses 250 metres of hair and weighs 15 stone (95kg).
Eight designers from Thelma's dress shop Nico's Dressmakers, which featured on Channel Four's series of My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, spent 12 days making the dress.
The dress with a price tag of more than GBP 50,000 includes 1500 crystals and 12 underskirts.
The seamstress of choice to UK travellers worked with Voodou hair salon in Liverpool to create the dress.
The brain child behind the hairy idea was Voodou stylist Ryan Edwards.
Ryan said: "It's something that we've been thinking about designing for a while as it's just so different.
"I approached Thelma and her team to see if they would be up for doing it and they loved the idea. It took a team of about eight people just over 12 days to make and as you can see, we used a lot of hair!"
The dress was revealed at the alternative Miss Liverpool pageant where it was crowned the winner of the annual event, by star of stage and screen, Fenella Fielding.
The team at Voodou hair salon are now hoping that they can get stars such as Lady Gaga to wear it in the future or for it to go on display at one of the city's renowned art galleries.
Ryan added: "This was a chance for us to show off our creativity and originality, it's a fantastic feeling to see the finished product.
"It's fair to say we'll probably not see another dress like it for a very long time."
