A robot cat which can purr and move its tail has been created to give single elderly people companionship.The makers think the device will offer comfort in between visits from relatives, friends and carers.Called Necko-chan, the fluffy white cat is due to go on sale on Japan later this month were a declining birth-rate and long lives are causing senior citizens a lack of friendship. It has been developed by Digirect, a company that has become a pioneer in the development of communication toys for seniors, It has over 100 different recorded cat noises and five sensors registering sound, touch, and sight.Neko-chan reacts accordingly to its owner’s actions and words, even shifting its paws or moving its tail in pleasure or displeasure.
