    HIGHER THAN THE SKYSCRAPERS

Those whose nerves are strong enough can look down even on New York City's massive skyscrapers. One man for whom there is no such thing as a ' giddy ' height is Andrew D. Vernon of Brooklyn, New York bridgeman of U.S. Steels American Bridge Company - seen with the city's Midtown section spread before him as he works on a temporary television aerial atop the 1,250 feet high Empire State building, tallest building in the world. Vernon is one of twenty two structural steel workers engaged in one of the most spectacular jobs of steel erections ever undertaken - the construction of a permanent five station multiple television tower on top of the building. Their aerial will be 222 feet high and will increase the height of the structure to 1,472 feet above pavement level ( 522 feet above sea level ). The base of the tower rests on a dome surmounting the building .
