Un spray hémostatique, capable d'arrêter instantanément les saignements des soldats blessés a été mis au point
Picture MUST credit: KAIST A battlefield spray that instantly stops the wound of an injured soldier bleeding has been developed and is expected to save countless lives. The leading cause of death due to injuries in war is excessive bleeding. The spray has been developed by a team at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. The powder-like substance forms a powerful hydrogel barrier in about a second when sprayed on a wound. This technology reached a high level of perfection as a practical technology considering real combat environments, with an Army Major researcher directly participating in the study. The spray instantly hardens even under extreme conditions such as combat and disaster sites. It is easy to use and store making immediate emergency treatment possible. Picture supplied by JLPPA

Des scientifiques ont créé un matériau en poudre capable d’absorber et de stocker le dioxyde de carbone
Picture MUST credit:UC Berkeley/ Zihui Zhou Scientists have created a powdered material that is able to suck up and store carbon dioxide to slow global warming. Just 200 grams of the material can take up as much CO2 in a year, 20 kg, as a tree. Other carbon capture technologies work well for concentrated sources of carbon, such as power plant exhaust. But the same methods cannot efficiently capture carbon dioxide from ambient air, where concentrations are hundreds of times lower than in flue gases. The new type of absorbing material has been developed by chemists at the USA’s University of California, Berkeley. It was created in the lad of chemistry professor Omar Yaghi He said: ”We passed outdoor air into the material to see how it would perform, and it was beautiful. It cleaned the air entirely of CO2. Everything. "I am excited about it because there's nothing like it out there in terms of performance. It breaks new ground in our efforts to address the climate problem.” Picture supplied by JLPPA

PEOPLE - 'Dry Powder' am Hampstead Theatre
Dry Powder by Sarah Burgess, Directed by Anna Ledwich at the Hampstead Theatre, London, Great Britain. 31st January 2018. In the same week his private equity firm forced massive layoffs at a supermarket chain, Rick threw himself a lavish engagement party - which even featured an elephant - setting off a publicity nightmare. However all’s not lost when you’re the titan of high finance – there’s still an abundance of cash in reserve and Seth, one of Rick’s partners, spots an opportunity to salvage the company’s reputation with an investment that’s both sound and PR-friendly. But Jenny, the third partner, and Seth’s nemesis, has other ideas: she’s not in business to make friends. If there’s money to be made, she’ll do whatever it takes to generate the maximum return, irrespective of what the critics might say. Pictured : Joseph Balderrama as Jeff, Hayley Atwell as Jenny. Designed by Andrew D Edwards, Lighting by Elliot Griggs, Sound by Max Pappenheim and Video by Ian William Galloway.
