The celebrities dressed up to the nines and came out in force last night (Nov 25) for this year's British Fashion Awards. Newcomer Jourdan Dunn, a model discovered working in her local Primark and signed by the same agency as Kate Moss, was the surprise winner of the Model of the Year Award, pipping favourite Agyness Deyn to the post. She is presently the face of Topshop, although a relative unknown in the modelling world. Luella Bartley, a former fashion journalist who made her London Fashion Week debut in 1999, was the recipient of the Designer of the Year Award. Burberry's Christopher Bailey won Menswear Designer of the Year for the second consecutive year, while milliner Stephen Jones picked up the gong for Outstanding Achievement in Fashion design. Photographer Tim Walker was presented with the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator, named in honour of the renowned stylist and fashion editor who took her own life in May last year.

The new Batman film 'The Dark Knight' makes its European premiere at London's Leicester Square. The film sees Christian Bale reprise his role as the Caped Crusader; together with Lt James Gordon (Gary Oldman) Batman join forces with Gotham's new District Attorney, Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), to take on psychotic bank robber The Joker (Heath Ledger). Meanwhile, the Caped Crusader also has affairs of the heart to deal with as a love triangle develops between Bruce Wayne, Dent and Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal). 'The Dark Knight' is predicted to become the blockbuster of the summer and Ledger's turn as The Joker has already earned him rave reviews. There is even a suggestion that the actor, who tragically died from an accidental drugs overdose in January, could receive a posthumous Oscar.
