FEATURE - Ausdrucksstarke Mimik: Schnee-Eule in Missouri
December 20, 2017 - West Alton, Missouri, United States: An immature female Snowy Owl hops away from people who were getting too close at the Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, in West Alton, Missouri, 30 miles north of St. Louis. Drivers were stopping their cars near the bird and getting out to take pictures. The snowy owl is a large, white owl of the typical owl family. Snowy owls are native to Arctic regions in North America and Eurasia. Males are almost all white, while females have more flecks of black plumage. Juvenile snowy owls have black feathers until they turn white. The snowy owl is a ground nester that primarily hunts rodents and waterfowl and opportunistically eats carrion. (J.B.
