British Steel takeover: Jingye promises 'new chapter' for industry. Chinese firm says it is happy to go ahead with sale despite delay in decision on Hayange
SCUNTHORPE, 27 January 2020 - The British Steel works at Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire. The Chinese firm buying British Steel will cut up to 500 jobs if it concludes the takeover, after talks with trade unions about pay and conditions. The proposals from ChinaÕs Jingye, which would result in a reduction in British SteelÕs workforce by about 10%, will be put to the companyÕs 4,500 staff. Turkish company Cengiz is reportedly ready to bid for British Steel if the planned sale to Jingye falls through.
