‘I won’t vote Tory again’: Water crisis in blue-wall Surrey could tip balance at election
In village of Cranleigh, where residents are having to get their water from tankers, the mood is mutinous.

The water crisis in Surrey is threatening to turn lifelong Tories into revolutionaries.

The local Liberal Democrats reckon such anger could help it pick up so-called blue wall seats. Cranleigh is part of the Guildford constituency - which is 11th on the party's lists of winnable seats.

Anger peaked at the weekend when up to 9,000 residents had no water during one of warmest spells on record.

Staff from Thames Watergive out bottled water to residents who have no water still after a problem at the water treatment works.

Tanker of Russian gas diverted after Kent dockers refuse to unload it.
Dockers who vowed not to unload a tanker of Russian gas that was due to arrive at a Thames Estuary port in the early hours of Friday morning have scored a victory, after the ship was diverted.

The German flagged tanker Seacod, berthed at the Tranmere Oil Terminal, Wirral on 3rd March, 2022 and believed to be carrying a cargo of oil which was being transported from the port of Primorsk, Russia.

Union calls for closure of loophole that allows Russian cargo into UK on ships registered elsewhere.

    London fuel shortages worsen
Fuel Crisis. A member of the public fills up his tractor at a Tesco Extra in West Sutton. Boris Johnson warned the road haulage industry it cannot expect to rely on cheap immigrant labour in the future - as fuel shortages got worse in London and the south east. Speaking on the eve of the Conservative Party conference in Manchester, the Prime Minister insisted the situation on forecourts was ÒstabilisingÓ after a week of filling stations running dry due to panic buying. Opportunistic petrol stations are charging nearly £3 a litre for fuel amid warnings the costs could rise even further next week.
